Attorney Lynn Bodi Presented at the American Academy of Adoption and ART Attorneys’ Mid-Year Conference

Attorney Lynn Bodi of The Law Center, S.C., presented the “Fundamentals of Insurance” at the American Academy of Adoption and ART Attorneys’ Mid-Year Conference in Chicago on October 5, 2015. The presentation covered insurance issues in surrogacy. Many ART (assisted reproductive technology) attorneys are curious about how to interpret health insurance policies in the context of surrogacy. Will there be coverage for a surrogate’s pregnancy-related medical expenses? This presentation covered the basics of insurance terms and rules of construction, as well as relevant coverage provisions and exclusions. We also explored potential arguments for and against coverage in various situations. It was a fun and engaged group. Others at the conference were probably surprised to hear so much laughter coming out of the insurance talk!
